Catholic Wedding Vows

catholic wedding

For the Catholics, wedding vows are from pre-written and uniform for all marriages. The priest reads it and the groom and then the bride repeats after the priest. After the traditional Catholic vows, personal vows of the groom and bride can be added this is more or less the wording of all Catholic wedding vows:

I, (name of groom or bride), take you, (name of bride or groom), to be my lawful wife/husband. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health until death do us part.

If you want to add personal wedding vows, you can ask the officiating priest beforehand. There are some churches that don’t permit this so it is best to ask the church office if the officiating priest permits personal wedding vows.

What will you do if the officiating priest at the church that you want doesn’t permit personal wedding vows? If there is still time, you can change your church or you can save your wedding vows during the reception.
